About Faithful Five

The name "Faithful Five" is simply our family — Dan, Mary, and our three children. We seek to be faithful in what we have been entrusted.
Our story begins long before Idaho. For three decades, across four countries — Denmark, Latvia, Sweden, and the United States — we have been in ministry. Dan directed choirs and led worship across Scandinavia, trained churches throughout Eastern Europe, and served the homeless in every city we have lived in — Issaquah, Seattle, Tacoma, and Spokane. Mary earned her degrees in Education and has been a partner in every chapter of this journey. Wherever we have moved, we have begun by serving the poor.
In April 2019, we planted a church in Tacoma, Washington, beginning in our living room. By September we had moved into a church building near Titlow Park, and the congregation was growing. Then, in 2020, the governor of Washington ordered churches closed. Houses of worship were deemed non-essential. It became impossible for us to gather.
We sought God's face for guidance. The answer was clear: relocate to Post Falls, Idaho. In September 2020, we moved our family and ministry across the state line. We established a homeless outreach in Spokane — continuing the pattern we had followed in every city — and began building the school that had been forming in our hearts since 2009.
Today, Faithful Five is an incorporated nonprofit church in the State of Idaho. Our mission has never changed. It is the same calling that has carried us across oceans and state lines.

“Faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.”

Our Mission
Our mandate is threefold:
Water the Valleys — Send rivers of life flowing outward, as the Garden of Eden watered the surrounding dry lands. Our homeless ministry in Spokane welcomes runaways, addicts, and the displaced into a coffee house for worship, food, clothing, and prayer. We serve about a hundred people weekly and engage in street evangelism throughout the city. We bring people to rehabilitation and have seen many set free and begin new lives in Christ.
Raise Up Champions — The Davids, the Esthers, the Joshuas of this generation. River Tech School of Performing Arts & Technology is a K–12 Christian school grounded in enduring values and a family-centered culture, blending technology and artistic expression with lessons in relationships, finances, and health. Approximately seventy-five students are currently enrolled.*
Rebuild the Lord's House — Because the glory of the latter house will be greater than the former. We are building toward the acquisition of property and the restoration of gathered Sunday worship with sacramental life.
*Faithful Five operates the school under the River Tech brand and educational model, licensed from River Tech LLC.
Our Pastors
Dan Hegelund — Founder & Senior Pastor
Dan planted Faithful Five in Post Falls, Idaho, drawing on three decades of ministry across four countries. He and Mary were ordained in 2019. He holds a Master of Science in Political Science from Uppsala University in Sweden.
Dan's vision drives the three streams of Faithful Five's ministry: reaching the homeless through the Jesus People Coffee House in Spokane, raising up the next generation through River Tech School, and — as property is acquired — rebuilding a gathered church community with Sunday worship and sacramental life.
Mary Hegelund — Co-Pastor & School Director
Mary is the co-pastor of Faithful Five and serves as Coordinator and Younger Elementary Director at River Tech School. She holds a Bachelor's and Master's degree in Education.
Mary's steady leadership shapes how we care for the poor, educate children with Christian conviction, and build sustainable ministry structures. The school is a direct expression of her heart to raise up champions in the faith.
